Would it be ok if I called the Attorney General’s Office to make sure that a company existed in that state?

I am getting “hired” to work for a company in another state. I am a bit suspicious for some reasons, so I want to make that this company is legitimate. Is it necessary to call the Attorney General’s Office to make sure or would I be bugging them?

The state comptroller not attorney general most states have free online search.
For the company dont think they will be angry with you may have hard time trying to find the consumer complaints against the company dont think they will be angry with you may have hard time trying to find the consumer protection.
that really isn’t the AG’s job, try a websearch for “(state) corporation division business entity search”
most states have an online database of all the corps in the state, but don’t forget that some corps operate under assumed names and for those you might have to contact the county clerk
