   The address of each letter and know where to weigh each piece of mail.

   The front line of the post office is the window clerks. Letters that are dropped in the boxes are processed by employees at each station. For the most part if a letter is overweight(requiring more postage) you can tell because it will a bulky envelope or oversized. If an employee suspects that it is overweight it is then weighed.
